Marion Fire Department404 viewsThe Marion Fire Department celebrated the careers of three of its retiring firefighters on November 8. Deputy Chiefs William Scott, Charles Blanchette, and Scott Cowell were toasted (and roasted) by Marion Fire Chief Thomas Joyce before family and friends at the Marion VFW Saturday night. The wives of MacDougal and Blanchette, and the daughter of Cowell, attached new deputy chief badges on the three gentlemen during the pinning ceremony, and the three selectmen honored the retiring chiefs with gifts.

Spanish Trip404 viewsSpanish students from Old Rochester Regional High School recently enjoyed a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston courtesy of grants from the Marion and Rochester Cultural Councils. Students studied the works of Francisco Goya, one of the most important Spanish artists of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. They were then able to visit an exhibition of his work at the MFA.

Antique Car Show404 views It was a great turnout for the Agawam’s 3rd Annual Antique Car Show at Washburn Park in Marion on Saturday, August 29. Classic car entrants signed their antique automobiles up for a chance to win first, second, or third place in the show. The sponsoring group, Agawam Chapter No. 121 Order of the Eastern Star, uses the proceeds from the event to benefit various charities the group supports. The group meets regularly at the Masonic Hall located at 13 Spring Street in Marion. Photos by Colin Veitch

Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association404 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. The fundraiser proceeds go to fund local youth sports, a cause that was dear to the late Barrows’ heart. Barrows was the owner of the bad “Brad’s” in Mattapoisett until his death in 2007. Gine Fishing404 viewsRochester Scout Pack 30 had a fishing day at Five Mile Pond at Camp Cachelot in Myles Standish State Forest on September 27.
