Elizabeth Taber Statue409 viewsOn July 14, work began on the Elizabeth Taber Statue site at Bicentennial Park in Marion. The site will include granite steppers, concrete paving, lighting, two wooden benches and a granite bench for Elizabeth to sit on. There will be room on either side of the granite bench for folks to sit and thank Elizabeth for all that she did for Marion. Susannah Davis of Marion has designed the plantings that will be added around the site. – Judith Rosbe

Bowlmor409 viewsTuesday brought the end of an era, as the Bowlmor bowling alley on Route 6 in Mattapoisett village came down when Costello Dismantling demolished the long beloved venue. Melody Pacheco409 viewsOn March 17 family, friends, and co-workers came out in force to beep and wave at retiring Mattapoisett Town Hall employee Melody Pacheco, who ended her 35-year career after serving in a variety of capacities, including assistant to the town administrator, for over a decade. While Pacheco looked on from the steps of Town Hall, all in attendance wished her a very happy retirement with cheers of “Thank You” and tears of gratitude. Photos by Mick Colageo

Barn Tour408 viewsOver 60 carloads of people enjoyed the second annual Rochester Land Trust Barn Tour on June 27, 2010. With eight barns on the route, enthusiasts got to explore this fascinating part of the New England landscape. Some, like the Hiller farm barn, are still in use, and others on the tour were well-kept relics of our agricultural past. Photo by Anne OBrien-Kakley

4th Fireworks408 viewsDespite funding setbacks, the Marion fireworks took place this year at Silver Shell Beach under perfectly clear skies. Revelers enjoyed the patriotic music of Phil Sanborn and the Marion Concert Band while brilliant colors illuminated the harbor. Unless the town can secure a permanent source of funding, next years fireworks may be in jeopardy. Photo by Felix Perez.
