World Tai Chi and Qigong Day409 viewsA group in Mattapoisett joined others across the globe in celebrating World Tai Chi and Qigong Day on April 26 at 10:00 am, just as other groups did at 10:00 am in their local time zones. Led by Tai Chi Practitioner Colman Fink, 15 locals moved gracefully together with conscious breath in the downstairs of the Mattapoisett Free Library – thanks to the rain that dampened the plan to meet at Ned’s Point for a second year in a row. Much Ado About Nothing 409 viewsWhen ORR High School students Ian Hibbert and Jeremy Bare walked out onto the stage in longhaired wigs and skirts, the crowd burst into laughter. Twenty-one students from English teacher Kathleen Brunelle’s Theater class performed Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing on May 22. The performance had a different spin on the original play, the setting being post-World War II, with accompanying music by the Andrews Sisters that, along with period clothing and costumes, brought the play to life. Field Day Fun at Sippican School 409 viewsFriday morning we caught some first-graders in the middle of a hula-hoop relay on the grounds of Sippican School. Holding hands and cheering each other on, the kids twisted and turned themselves through the hoops and the first team to get their hoop to travel down and up the line again won the relay. Can you guess which team won? Photo by Jean Perry

Rochester Country Fair 2014409 viewsWhat do you get when you combine the smell of Italian sausage mixed with diesel exhaust and cow manure, the sound of loud tractor engines drowning out the live country music with the occasional barn animal noise, and the sight of happy Southcoast folks in overalls? The sublime sensory experience that is the Rochester Country Fair! What is more fun than four fun-filled days of frog racing, tractor pulling, mechanic bull riding, and fried food eating? Don’t forget the cowchip bingo and John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band who rocked the house on Saturday night before hundreds of spectators. Photos by Jean Perry, Camden Gaspar, and Felix Perez

Wienermobile at Ned's Point409 viewsThose enjoying the afternoon at Ned’s Point Lighthouse on Sunday, August 17 did a double take when they suddenly saw a sight they were not expecting to see — a giant wiener on wheels parked alongside the Ned’s Point lighthouse. It was not just any wiener on wheels — it was the famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, on location taking some promotional photographs from Mattapoisett’s most iconic setting. Photo by Denise Mello
