On April 12, families gathered at Ned’s Point to celebrate Easter early with a traditional Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Mattapoisett Lions Club. The Easter Bunny hopped over for a visit, giving children hugs and high-fives as parents scurried to take photos and comfort the smaller ones who were a little reluctant to approach. Marion Natural History Museum 325 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum hosted their very first Earth Day Celebration on April 19, providing little ones with activities that focused on our planet and stimulated their senses. There was a make your own planet earth pinwheel table, a station to decorate your own “Earth cookie” with green and blue icing, a puppet show stage, and a boat load of Legos to play with while the sounds of croaking frogs and crickets played in the background. The Bogs at Sunset325 viewsThere is an otherworldly appearance to the Bogs during the long-shadowed evening hours of late spring. The landscape is bathed in golden sunlight that makes the bogs appear to glow from the inside out. The Buzzards Bay Coalition oversees the 50 acres of retired cranberry bogs that abounds with wildlife of the amphibious kind. Field Day Fun at Sippican School 325 viewsFriday morning we caught some first-graders in the middle of a hula-hoop relay on the grounds of Sippican School. Holding hands and cheering each other on, the kids twisted and turned themselves through the hoops and the first team to get their hoop to travel down and up the line again won the relay. Family Campout at Camp Hadley325 viewsOn the weekend of June 7 the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts met for their annual Family Campout at Camp Hadley in Marion. The Scouts started off with a firewood moving exercise that got all involved and started the day off right. The Boy Scouts did a great job introducing the Cub Scouts to ‘Line Rescue’ in the water, Knife, Saw and Axe Safety, Fire Safety, Dutch Oven Cooking (with a pineapple upside down cake) and a Flag Raising and Lowering Ceremony.
