Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Tour414 viewsThe Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Tour “Nature’s Treasures” held on June 30 was “Magnificent”, declared Ellen Flynn. Flynn said that the event brought in more than $6,000 - monies that are earmarked for their scholarship fund. She said visitors were awed by the gardens graciously opened for viewing from iconic harbor homes to those set in peaceful rural uplands along the Mattapoisett River Valley. 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race 414 viewsThe 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race once again brought out young and old alike. Overcast skies were welcomed but the July 4th heat was tough for the runners and the cheering crowds who begged for shade. The field of runners was well over 1,000 and coming in first was Joe Farrand at 26:59. Shortly after, the first female to finish was Kim Bolick at 29:54. Marion Natural History Museum414 viewsOn Friday night the Marion Natural History Museum welcomed state fish and wildlife biologist Stephen Wright. A large group joined us on a very chilly night to learn about beavers in Massachusetts. We heard about how beavers create and maintain their lodges, how they cache food for when their pond freezes over, and much more. No more mistaking a beaver, which averages 60 pounds, with a muskrat, which averages 2-4 pounds! We had a chance to examine pelts, skulls, teeth and examples of their favorite food. We
