Santa’s Workshop329 viewsOn the snowy night of December 15, high school students and some rambunctious kids gathered for some fun at ‘Santa’s Workshop’ in the ORRHS Cafeteria. Senior Class President Gabriel Noble-Shriver and Vice President Rachel Demmer, along with Class of 2018 advisors Merrideth Wickman and Michael Nailor, hosted an evening of crafts, dancing, games, and a movie so parents could holiday shop. Make A Difference Expo 329 viewsOn December 29 Miss Massachusetts Jillian Zucco held a Make A Difference Expo at the Knights of Columbus hall. Various volunteer organizations and groups dependent on volunteer participation set up tables and invited the public to learn how they could help. Marion Natural History Museum329 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group enjoyed learning the history of the Bird Island lighthouse and viewing the return of the birds to the island. We spotted roseate terns, common terns, oyster catchers, some unhappy Canadian geese, and a nesting mallard duck. We also learned about the recent restoration efforts made by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to improve drainage and provide adequate nesting habitat for the returning birds. Tour de Crème329 viewsThis Sunday was the third annual Tour de Crème, a fundraising partnership between the Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path. The ride started at the Town Beach and wound its way through the Southcoast, making stops at the various creameries along the way. This year’s weather was a major improvement from last year’s soaking, but overall participation was down this year.
