Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day333 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. There were plenty of Department of Public Works, police, and fire personnel on hand to demonstrate how the vehicles work, to turn on lights and alarms, and answer questions. Photo by Jean Perry

Memorial Day Boat Race333 viewsKeeping with an 80 year-old tradition, people with their home made boats raced toward the finish line during the annual Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race. Beginning at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir on Snipatuit Road, boaters paddled the almost 12-mile race route to Herring Weir at River Road in Mattapoisett. There were 65 teams in all. Much Ado About Nothing 333 viewsWhen ORR High School students Ian Hibbert and Jeremy Bare walked out onto the stage in longhaired wigs and skirts, the crowd burst into laughter. Twenty-one students from English teacher Kathleen Brunelle’s Theater class performed Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing on May 22. The performance had a different spin on the original play, the setting being post-World War II, with accompanying music by the Andrews Sisters that, along with period clothing and costumes, brought the play to life. Relay for Life333 viewsIt rained down hard the night of the 9th annual Relay for Life at Old Rochester Regional, soaking the ground, the tents, and the participants – but it didn’t stop anyone from coming out anyway to walk for a cure and honor those who have battled cancer.
