Salty's Hat420 viewsEarly this past Friday, December 1, as folks were rushing to work and children settling into school, an annual tradition transpired in Mattapoisett at the corner of Route 6 and North Street. With the placement of the Santa hat upon the head of our beloved Salty the Seahorse, the holiday season officially began. Chris Kidd attended the Memorial Day observances at Center School on May 28. The Old Hammondtown School concert band under the direction of Cara Kinney played patriotic tunes to a full house, and afterwards the Memorial Day parade headed to the Civil War monument at the library. Stayin’ Alive 420 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Tour420 viewsThe Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Tour “Nature’s Treasures” held on June 30 was “Magnificent”, declared Ellen Flynn. Flynn said that the event brought in more than $6,000 - monies that are earmarked for their scholarship fund. She said visitors were awed by the gardens graciously opened for viewing from iconic harbor homes to those set in peaceful rural uplands along the Mattapoisett River Valley. Summer Discovery Experience420 viewsOCRVTHS ran its 2nd Annual Summer Discovery Experience for students entering grades 4-9 the week of July 16-20. Over 100 students participated in selections that included metal art, welding, a combo of carpentry and CADD, auto maintenance, computer science, culinary arts, Lego robotics, electronics engineering, cosmetology, and sports. 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair 420 viewsThe 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair was held on August 18 with a wide variety of produce, floral bouquets, baked goods, handicrafts, and works of art. The state first place winner for her diorama depicting a barn that contained fresh eggs and produce was Susan Guiducci of Dartmouth. There were a total of 35 entries vying for other blue ribbons in many other categories. Sue LaFluer, grange secretary and one of the fair organizers said that participants ranged in age from 6 years of age and beyond.

The Magical Lamp of Aladdin420 viewsCome see the ORR Junior High School Drama Club present its production of “The Magical Lamp of Aladdin” on March 15 at 7:00 pm, and March 16 at 2:00 pm in the ORRJHS auditorium. The show stars Storm Lanzoni as the charming and rather acrobatic Aladdin, Emma Zhou as Princess Jasmine, plus, not one, but three genies – Cattarinha Nunes as the Genie of the Ring, Jackson Veugen as the Genie of the Jewels, and Nicole Londergan as the Genie of the Lamp.
