Wanderer Model1320 viewsThis intricately detailed model of the whaling bark Wanderer was built by David Barker and Neale Birdsall, both of Marion, and was commissioned by Mr. Barker for his private maritime collection. Mr. Barker has maintained a lifelong fascination with the whaling ship which dates back to his father’s finding artifacts from the historic vessel floating in the water just after it was destroyed on the rocks off Cuttyhunk Island in 1924. Learning From The Past1298 viewsThird Grade students at Rochester’s Memorial School recently got acquainted with Rochester’s rich, historic past thanks to members of the Rochester Historical Commission. Students were treated to a hands-on experience with old toys, primitive household items and educational tools, and learned about early church customs, Rochester’s Native Americans, and changes in the town boundaries as Marion, Mattapoisett, and Wareham eventually broke off from the large township of Rochester to form their own towns.
