Veteran’s Day 423 viewsOn November 12, members of the Mattapoisett community gathered together at Old Hammondtown Elementary School for their annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Commander Michael Lamoureux served as emcee of the event while State Representative William Straus, Selectman Paul Silva, Veterans’ Agent Barry Denham and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Scott Burrill addressed the audience. Marion Natural History Museum423 viewsLast week the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool program welcomed the Cape Cod Cranberry Grower’s educator Dawn Allen. Students learned how to tell a ripe cranberry from a spoiled one and who some of the animals are that are found on a bog. They were able to try on the same types of waders the Ocean Spray guys wear on the tv commercials. The Museum’s next program is Nature Crafts, on December 12th.

Marion Art Center Show423 viewsThe Marion Art Center unveiled its new show in a special opening reception at the gallery on Friday, January 11. The 2013 Winter Members Exhibition features over 60 works by about 30 local artists, some well-known and some new to the local art scene. This is the first of two bi-annual shows that showcase work by members of MAC, from oil paintings to multi-media. Check out some of the great art work being created by Tri-Town artists. Pinewood Derby423 viewsOn Saturday, March 2nd 2013, The Cubs Scout Pack 32 held a pinewood derby at the Community Hall of the Congregational Church in Marion. The results were 1st Lucas Marcolini, 2nd Brendan Hubbard, 3rd Nathaniel Bangs, and 4th Nate Robertson. All four move on to regional finals in New Bedford later this month. Bird Island Trip423 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group enjoyed another perfect trip to Bird Island with the Marion Harbormaster’s Department. The students saw the arrival of some of the first terns back to the island, along with a couple of Oystercatchers and their eggs. Destination Imagination Global Finals423 viewsOld Rochester Regional Junior High School’s representative in the Destination Imagination Global Finals traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., during Memorial Day weekend to compete against the world’s most dynamic young minds. The GEEKS – Sara Lafrance, Holly Frink, Rikard Bodin, Kyle Rood, and Edward Krawczyk, as well as team managers Tina Rood and Kerry Bulman – finished seventh out 60 teams in their age group.
