Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition 399 viewsOn September 8, the 5th annual Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition featured a variety of flavorful chowders from restaurants and public safety facilities from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Mattapoisett. Retro Presto399 viewsThe August 4, 1955 cover of The Presto Press depicts the American pastime of square dancing, a weekend activity on the historic wharves located at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett so popular that hundreds watched from the sidelines. The Mattapoisett-Fairhaven Parents Music Club used the proceeds from the opening dance that year to purchase musical instruments for the Fairhaven High School band, and square dancing inspired one local girl to become a professional square-dance caller. Children and their grandparents had fun playing bean-bag toss, bocce, posing with the Three Stooges, and more. The face-painting and petting zoo areas were a complete hit! Annual Tree Sale398 viewsA Decorating Committee from the Sippican Woman’s Club produced over 50 festive trees for the Tree Spree, which started in Handy’s Tavern. The tavern was decked out with themed trees, including a Barbie tree, a Hannukah tree, a Mallard duck tree, and even a tree decorated with recycled items like bottles and plastic bags.
