Tour de Crème426 viewsThis Sunday was the third annual Tour de Crème, a fundraising partnership between the Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path. The ride started at the Town Beach and wound its way through the Southcoast, making stops at the various creameries along the way. Proceeds of the ride will go towards maintaining the MLT trails and the extension of the bike path to the Mattapoisett/Marion town line. Photos by Glenn C. Silva

Stayin’ Alive 426 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. The Scoop on S.C.O.P.E. 426 viewsORRJHS 7th-grade students participated in the annual S.C.O.P.E. cardboard boat race at the beach at the Mattapoisett YMCA last Wednesday, June 20. The students engineer and build their boats – some sink, some sail – and this year team “Funky Monkey” came in first place. There were 15 boats in all this year, all created by teams of four. 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race 426 viewsThe 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race once again brought out young and old alike. Overcast skies were welcomed but the July 4th heat was tough for the runners and the cheering crowds who begged for shade. The field of runners was well over 1,000 and coming in first was Joe Farrand at 26:59. Shortly after, the first female to finish was Kim Bolick at 29:54. Lions Club Triathlon426 viewsUnder merciful overcast skies on July 15, the 37th annual Lions Club Triathlon found 115 participants including seven relay teams vying for first place bragging rights. Coming in 1st place in the men’s division was Brian Hughes with a time of 51:38 minutes. Harbor Days426 viewsSaturday was a splendid day to celebrate Harbor Days, with thousands turning out throughout the day ahead of Sunday’s dubious weather forecast that caused the early end to the annual weeklong event at Shipyard Park. Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition 426 viewsOn September 8, the 5th annual Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition featured a variety of flavorful chowders from restaurants and public safety facilities from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Mattapoisett.
