The Scoop on S.C.O.P.E. 459 viewsORRJHS 7th-grade students participated in the annual S.C.O.P.E. cardboard boat race at the beach at the Mattapoisett YMCA last Wednesday, June 20. The students engineer and build their boats – some sink, some sail – and this year team “Funky Monkey” came in first place. There were 15 boats in all this year, all created by teams of four. Sayonara, School! 459 viewsDark clouds and raindrops couldn’t dampen the spirits of students and teachers on June 25 when Rochester Memorial School said farewell until next September. Bandleader Chris Williamson, along with teachers and Principal Derek Medeiros, sent the students on their way with the traditional rousing music. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs. This two-act drama (dramedy) is about a retired couple enjoying a day at the beach when they meet a “sea creature” couple. Director Kate Fishman has cast Camerin Bennett as Sarah, Scott Fishman as Charlie, Tristan McCann as Leslie, and Susan Sullivan as Nancy. “This is a strong cast”, said Fishman, “and I predict a lively and engaging production.” Photo courtesy
