The Scoop on S.C.O.P.E. 346 viewsORRJHS 7th-grade students participated in the annual S.C.O.P.E. cardboard boat race at the beach at the Mattapoisett YMCA last Wednesday, June 20. The students engineer and build their boats – some sink, some sail – and this year team “Funky Monkey” came in first place. There were 15 boats in all this year, all created by teams of four. Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Tour346 viewsThe Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Tour “Nature’s Treasures” held on June 30 was “Magnificent”, declared Ellen Flynn. Flynn said that the event brought in more than $6,000 - monies that are earmarked for their scholarship fund. She said visitors were awed by the gardens graciously opened for viewing from iconic harbor homes to those set in peaceful rural uplands along the Mattapoisett River Valley. Mattapoisett Recreation's Seahorse Summer Explorer Program346 viewsMattapoisett Recreation's Seahorse Summer Explorer Program kicked off on Tuesday, June 26. The first week’s theme was “Sensational Science” and included a visit from Mad Science of Southern MA & RI. "The Flight Stuff" show was a favorite with multiple rocket launchings. Seahorse Explorers runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm with extended care options available. Upcoming themes include: Where the Wild Things Are, Seahorse Gives Back, Under the Sea, and Amazing Seahorse Race.
