Freezin' for a Reason 2014429 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Manguito429 viewsCenter School students were introduced to Latin rhythms and percussion instruments by the Boston-based educational Latin American music group Manguito during an afternoon presentation on January 24. Manguito members really captured the attention of the kids, resulting in plenty of learning while the group’s sizzling salsa and merengue music resulted in an eruption of dancing and spontaneous conga lines. Students Teacher Basketball429 views Students and teachers did about as much playing around as they did playing basketball during the students versus teachers co-ed basketball game at Old Rochester Regional High the evening of March 7. The teams were neck and neck throughout the evening – students in white and teachers in black – and neither team seemed to have an advantage over the other at any point during the game. Lighten Up429 viewsThird-graders on June 16 performed their play “Lighten Up,” donning rainbow wigs, gigantic glasses, tutus, and brightly colored mustaches to remind everyone to not take themselves so seriously all the time. Classic Cars429 viewsClassic car enthusiasts from the area gathered Monday nights throughout the summer, riding up in their shiny antique cars and pulling up a lawn chair to sit back and reminisce about the good old days to the sounds of music from the ‘50s and ‘60s. October 12 will be the final classic car show of the year at Plumb Corner, and the biggest. There will be food, a DJ, vendors, and trophies for the top 50 car entries. Photo by Jean Perry

Taber Fall Lapsit Program429 viewsThe Fall Lapsit Program for babies kicked off on October 7 at the Taber Library in Marion. Babies and their caregivers enjoy 20 minutes of stories and 20 minutes of social time. Children’s Librarian Rosemary Gray delighted five happy babies with some peekaboo, short stories such as Where is Baby’ Belly Button, and songs like the Itsy Bitsy Spider.
