Lost Elm407 viewsMattapoisett has lost one of the last remaining American elm trees planted throughout the community during the mid-twentieth century. Tree Warden Roland Cote said that despite valiant efforts over the past year to save this once grand specimen located in Shipyard Park, the tree lost its battle with Dutch Elm disease. Concern over public safety helped Cote make the difficult decision to take the tree down. Cote said a red maple tree would be planted nearby. Photo by Marilou Newell

Grandparent's Day406 viewsIt was a perfect autumn day for the SouthCoast Senior Resource Alliance Grandparents’ Day at Hiller Farm in Rochester on September 19. Children and their grandparents had fun playing bean-bag toss, bocce, posing with the Three Stooges, and more. The face-painting and petting zoo areas were a complete hit! Most importantly, the free event provided information to seniors on health services available in the SouthCoast area. Photo by Anne O'Brien-Kakley

Plumb Corner Halloween406 viewsRain didn't stop a few brave trick or treaters from coming to the October 24 Plumb Corner Halloween celebration. Businesses at Plumb Corner provided candy and shelter from the rain. A tent in the Plumb Corner field held a ghoulishly good time, with a devilish D.J. and Halloween-themed music.
