The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event. Classroom Donation432 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust donated equipment to outfit an Outdoor Classroom, including a whiteboard and 24 colorful stools delivered to Old Hammondtown School by the Education Committee. Grade 5 students are working with Ben Squire, ORR District science coordinator, on an ongoing science compost project that analyzes the conditions needed for composting. Christmas Day Plunge432 viewsAt 94, Bob Humphrey was the elder statesman participating in the Christmas Day plunge held at Mattapoisett Town Beach, which including 47 swimmers and raised $2,595 in donations for the benefit of Helping Hands & Hooves. RMS Auction431 viewsRochester went Hollywood on Friday, March 26, 2010 when the Rochester Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) hosted a live auction with a Hollywood theme. The auction raised nearly $6,000, and that money will be used to pay for new playground equipment. The town appropriated $3.8 million for the new building, which replaces the old police station on Spring Street.
