With the placement of the Santa hat upon the head of our beloved Salty the Seahorse, the holiday season officially began. Sayonara, School! 354 viewsDark clouds and raindrops couldn’t dampen the spirits of students and teachers on June 25 when Rochester Memorial School said farewell until next September. Bandleader Chris Williamson, along with teachers and Principal Derek Medeiros, sent the students on their way with the traditional rousing music. Marion Natural History Museum354 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum Explored Group led by the staff from MattRec had a great week exploring Mattapoisett's open spaces. Along with crabbing, netting fish, building cairns, discovering types of seaweeds and saltmarsh vegetation, and plenty of swimming, we also met Coast Guard Fairhaven and Marion Flotilla members for a tour of Ned's Point lighthouse. We learned about oyster farming with Bob Field and enjoyed a boat tour of Mattapoisett Harbor with the Harbormaster's Office.

Marion Natural History Museum354 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum had a wonderful time netting seashore animals last week, including various crabs, pipefish, a large killifish, perch, roughly 500 pogies, and loads of shrimp.
