Lost Elm434 viewsMattapoisett has lost one of the last remaining American elm trees planted throughout the community during the mid-twentieth century. Tree Warden Roland Cote said that despite valiant efforts over the past year to save this once grand specimen located in Shipyard Park, the tree lost its battle with Dutch Elm disease. Concern over public safety helped Cote make the difficult decision to take the tree down. Cote said a red maple tree would be planted nearby. Photo by Marilou Newell

BBC Watershed Ride434 viewsThe Buzzards Bay Coalition’s 13th annual Watershed Ride pedaled its way through the Tri-Town on Sunday, October 6, taking participants on three different courses that wound through the land that surrounds Buzzards Bay the way gold enfolds a pearl. Family Fun Festival 434 viewsFamilies came out in record numbers to enjoy the 4th Annual Fall Free Family Fun Festival sponsored by the Mattapoisett’s Lion Club on October 19 held at Shipyard Park. Bruce Rocha of the club estimated attendance at over 400. Kids and adults alike enjoyed free face painting, bowling with pumpkins, a corn hole toss, snacks, hayrides to Ned’s Point and, yes, free pumpkins to take home.
