Special Olympics Young Athletes435 viewsRoughly 120 Tabor Academy students volunteered on January 10 to assist with the school’s first session of the Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program held at Tabor. The program offers children ages 3-7 with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to engage in physical activities vital to mental and physical growth. Spearheaded by Math teacher Tim Cleary and Tabor senior Molly Bent, sessions continue January 17 to March 6 (no session February 7) at 2:00 pm at the Fish Center for Athletics

The four grades competed against each other in games like the egg toss, Pictionary, and the three-legged race for a cash deposit into their class bank account. Seniors took first place that day. Miss Inspirational435 viewsThe Miss Inspirational program took to the ORR stage and stole the show on Friday, May 6, during a packed auditorium assembled to see 29 young women of all abilities showcase their talents and accomplishments. Miss South Coast, Jillian Zucco, coordinated the fundraising event as part of her progress towards the upcoming Miss Massachusetts pageant. Harbor Days 435 viewsHarbor Days came to Mattapoisett this past weekend, and many visitors were gracious enough to spin The Wanderer Wheel for a $1 donation to the Lions Club. Those who played helped raise an extra $523 the Lions Club will use to benefit the community. Mattapoisett Firemen’s Reunion435 viewsRetired firemen gathered to celebrate the first Mattapoisett Firemen’s Reunion on October 16 at Ned’s Point. Former members of the Mattapoisett Fire Department along with several others from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Marion and current members of the department enjoyed the splendid fall afternoon while reliving past events in careers that spanned decades. On hand to greet the men and women as they arrived was retired Chief Ron Scott, who spent 42 years on the Mattapoisett Fire Department.
