Marion Art Center Halloween Parade 359 viewsIt looked as though nearly a thousand people came out for the Marion Art Center Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31. The event gets bigger and better every year, it seems, judging by the number of people and the degree of creativity when it comes to the costumes. Photos by Jean Perry

Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge359 viewsIt takes a certain type of person to jump into the cold ocean on New Year’s morning. Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration. Proceeds from the plunge benefit locals battling cancer. Photos by Colin Veitch

George's Pony Pasture359 viewsOn Saturday morning, a work crew gathered at George's Pony Pasture on Mattapoisett Road in Rochester. They attacked the briers, bittersweet, brush and tree trunks. About half the length of the wall was cleaned up in this initial effort, but there's more to be done. Our thanks to Art Benner, Ken Josephson, Kelly and Derek Barratt, and Russ, Wendy, and Howard Keeler for their efforts this morning. Photo courtesy of the Rochester Land Trust

Living History 359 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean
