A Gala Preview Party will kick things off on Friday, August 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and show hours are from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Sign of the Times1499 viewsLast weekend members of the Rochester Lions Club and Rochester Police Department erected a community bulletin board in the center of town. Located near the busy intersection of Route 105, Dexter Lane and New Bedford Road, the bulletin board will allow groups, organizations and the town to advertise events and make announcements of interest to the townspeople. Anyone wishing to use the sign may pick up a Bulletin Board Use Form at the Rochester Police Station, Rochester Town Hall, or call Sergeant Bill Chamberlain at 508-763-8956, extension 153, or John and Linda Cobb at 508-763-8970. Whale Winner1420 viewsFive-year-old Kate Lima of New Bedford is the winner of the “Name the Whale” Contest sponsored by First Night New Bedford. Kate chose to name the event’s tell-tale mascot “Welcome the Whale.” The First Night New Bedford 2006 committee chose the winning name “Welcome” for its cheerful whale design depicted on First Night buttons and posters. Kate received several prizes for her winning entry.
