People poured over the stacks seeking a specific issue or year to take home for their personal archives. Special Olympics Young Athletes479 viewsRoughly 120 Tabor Academy students volunteered on January 10 to assist with the school’s first session of the Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program held at Tabor. The program offers children ages 3-7 with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to engage in physical activities vital to mental and physical growth. Spearheaded by Math teacher Tim Cleary and Tabor senior Molly Bent, sessions continue January 17 to March 6 (no session February 7) at 2:00 pm at the Fish Center for Athletics

Library Henna479 viewsThe Elizabeth Taber Library hosted a henna tattoo program for teens, with each guest receiving their own henna creation by professional henna artist Heather Cault-Nulton. The art of henna dates back thousands of years and has recently grown in popularity. Marion Village 5K479 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. Family Fun Festival 479 viewsThe Mattapoisett Lions Club held its first Family Fun Festival at Shipyard Park on Saturday, October 29, featuring some good old-fashioned fun and games. Marion Veterans Day Observance479 viewsDuring the Marion Veterans Day observance on Friday morning, the townspeople of Marion expressed a heartfelt thank you to the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425, which in return gave a moving farewell as it disbanded this year and donated the VFW building to the town.
