George's Pony Pasture538 viewsOn Saturday morning, a work crew gathered at George's Pony Pasture on Mattapoisett Road in Rochester. They attacked the briers, bittersweet, brush and tree trunks. About half the length of the wall was cleaned up in this initial effort, but there's more to be done. Pinewood Derby538 viewsCub Scouts Pack 30 held its annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday, January 13 at Rochester Memorial School. The pinewood derby is a tradition that was started back in 1963 in Manhattan Beach, California and persists to this day. 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair 538 viewsThe 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair was held on August 18 with a wide variety of produce, floral bouquets, baked goods, handicrafts, and works of art. The state first place winner for her diorama depicting a barn that contained fresh eggs and produce was Susan Guiducci of Dartmouth. There were a total of 35 entries vying for other blue ribbons in many other categories. Sue LaFluer, grange secretary and one of the fair organizers said that participants ranged in age from 6 years of age and beyond.

Rochester Green Ways 537 viewsOn Wednesday, May15th the Rochester Green Ways Committee met to work on its Wildflower Garden in the center of town. Members cleaned up winter debris, weeded the beds that are filled with native and introduced plants that are called weeds by some and planted new seed for this and future years beauty. This is a necessary chore that was enhanced by the fact that it was held on the state and national Plant Something Day.

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race537 viewsIt rained, again, for the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race on Monday, May 29, but that never stops the participants from paddling the 14 miles of the Mattapoisett River that winds from Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir in Snipatuit Pond in Rochester all the way to the Herring Weir in Mattapoisett off River Road and Route 6.
