Homecoming Queens 408 viewsColleen Oakes, originally from Marion, and Renee Buteyne, from Rochester, finished the trip of a lifetime on Monday, July 16, having ridden across the United States on their bicycles. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs. 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair 408 viewsThe 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair was held on August 18 with a wide variety of produce, floral bouquets, baked goods, handicrafts, and works of art. The state first place winner for her diorama depicting a barn that contained fresh eggs and produce was Susan Guiducci of Dartmouth. There were a total of 35 entries vying for other blue ribbons in many other categories. Sue LaFluer, grange secretary and one of the fair organizers said that participants ranged in age from 6 years of age and beyond.

BLM Rochester408 viewsA “Black Lives Matter” protest march drew hundreds to Rochester late in the afternoon of June 12. Escorted by several Rochester policemen on foot, participants who had gathered in front of Town Hall marched down Dexter Lane to the police station, where several individuals spoke about racism and told stories of discrimination based on skin color. The protest was organized by Wareham resident Alexis Sylvia, who had spent several years living in Mattapoisett and Rochester. Photos by Mick Colageo

Road Race Fundraising407 viewsThe Rochester Road Race would like to thank the 444 runners and walkers who participated in the 2009 Race for helping to ensure that fewer local families go hungry this holiday season. On Tuesday, October 6, the Road Race Board presented a check for $4,000 to Father Gabriel Healy, Director and Treasurer of Damiens Place Food Pantry in Wareham.
