Marion Water413 viewsAs the Boil Water Order remained in effect for the Town of Marion through a second weekend, fresh water was made available to residents on October 16. All hands were on deck as members of the Select Board, Fire Department, Police Department, and DPW assisted. Select Board Chair Norm Hills said that 1,000 cases of water would be distributed throughout the day at the Cushing Community Center. Each household with proof of residency received one case of bottled water.

Marion Natural History Museum413 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had fun last week learning why deer and moose grow antlers, when and why they lose them, and where to look for the shed antlers. We talked about horns versus antlers and inspected some of the museum specimens of each. We then split into groups and hid pretend "antlers" outside and had a blast hiding them on each other and trying to locate them in the fallen leaves. Our next afterschool program is December 15th, our holiday party, where we'll be creating

Marion Natural History Museum413 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. Pumpkin Palooza413 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

COA Art Exhibit413 viewsThe newest art exhibit at the Marion Council on Aging is both a sublime and exciting partnership between local schools and the COA. Works have been created by students from Sippican Elementary and Old Rochester Regional Junior and Senior high schools. Marion Natural History Museum413 viewsOn Saturday, October 18, the Museum Community Program participants enjoyed a beautiful fall day walking Rochester's Shoolman Preserve looking for mushrooms. Mushroom enthusiast Adam Korejwa led our walk through the Oak and Pine upland forest looking for these fascinating specimens. We heard about how the mushroom is merely the fruiting body of the wide network of mycelium which connects all plant and fungal species in order to exchange nutrients and warns of adverse conditions.
