Marion Natural History Museum456 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. Members of the group were able to handle a couple of beautiful Io moths, which as caterpillars feed on maple leaves. Good News455 viewsOn October 14, Jeff and Lauren Paine of Pine Meadow Farms in Mattapoisett brought Alpacas “Good News,” a two-year-old male, and “Patience,” a 10-year-old female, to the Loft School in Marion, where Debbi Dyson's Pre-K class has been learning about Peru and the country’s alpacas and llamas. Soapbox Derby455 viewsMarion and Rochester Cub Scouts came together on November 6 for a soapbox derby on Holmes Street in Marion. The longtime fundraising event was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic but made a roaring return on Saturday, as children raced their homemade go-carts and collected donations for the Murphy and Others, Living Interdependently for Future Endeavors, Inc.
