The fund raiser was originally scheduled to run for two nights and to include Sunday but was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. Coastal Explorations II 558 viewsMany thanks to Karen Moore Dourdeville for her excellent presentation to the Coastal Explorations II summer program regarding the sea turtles of Buzzards Bay. The students were able to piece together some of the skeleton of a Loggerhead that washed up in Mattapoisett two years ago. Cranberry Program558 viewsOn Wednesday, Nov. 20th, he Marion Natural History Museum after-school group investigated how a cranberry bog formed in New England. Museum Director, Elizabeth Leidhold, helped the kids to explore the physical structure of a bog, and how to tell a healthy berry from a rotten one. The students then made “mini-bogs” to take home. Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day558 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. There were plenty of Department of Public Works, police, and fire personnel on hand to demonstrate how the vehicles work, to turn on lights and alarms, and answer questions. Photo by Jean Perry

Taber Fall Lapsit Program558 viewsThe Fall Lapsit Program for babies kicked off on October 7 at the Taber Library in Marion. Babies and their caregivers enjoy 20 minutes of stories and 20 minutes of social time. Children’s Librarian Rosemary Gray delighted five happy babies with some peekaboo, short stories such as Where is Baby’ Belly Button, and songs like the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Dr. Tom Burns558 viewsDr. Tom Burns, an avid underwater photographer, shared many of the photos he has taken of many of New England’s shark species in a lively and entertaining program at the Marion Natural History Museum last Friday. Dr. Burns is a veterinarian on Cape Cod and enjoys sharing his knowledge of shark species and their natural history with the public.
