Marion Natural History Museum614 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum Explored Group led by the staff from MattRec had a great week exploring Mattapoisett's open spaces. Along with crabbing, netting fish, building cairns, discovering types of seaweeds and saltmarsh vegetation, and plenty of swimming, we also met Coast Guard Fairhaven and Marion Flotilla members for a tour of Ned's Point lighthouse. We learned about oyster farming with Bob Field and enjoyed a boat tour of Mattapoisett Harbor with the Harbormaster's Office.

Marion Natural History Museum614 viewsTalented artist and wood carver James Babbit, Sr. made a wonderful dollhouse for his adult sister, Cynthia Babbit Bryden. Karilon Babbit Grainger inherited it from her aunt, and has now donated the dollhouse to the Marion Natural History Museum for all to enjoy. The fantastic structure is just perfect for the imaginative play of our visitors, children and adults alike. Working lights, beautiful furniture, and many minute details make this item a fun way to spend some time playing at the museum.

Marion Master Plan613 viewsMarion took its first step toward developing a new Marion Master Plan on September 27 by having residents and town officials alike gather to review past master plans and split into focus groups to devise a new vision for Marion. Many agreed that the current Master Plan is still relevant, with the majority concerned mostly with preserving the historic character of the town.
