The Derby was held at the Sippican School where scouts raced cars weighing less than 5 ounces down a sloped wooden track. Everyone cheered as the wooden cars raced down the track in packs or four. Marion Natural History Museum613 viewsTalented artist and wood carver James Babbit, Sr. made a wonderful dollhouse for his adult sister, Cynthia Babbit Bryden. Karilon Babbit Grainger inherited it from her aunt, and has now donated the dollhouse to the Marion Natural History Museum for all to enjoy. The fantastic structure is just perfect for the imaginative play of our visitors, children and adults alike. Working lights, beautiful furniture, and many minute details make this item a fun way to spend some time playing at the museum.

Sippican Lands Trust 613 viewsJim Bride, Sippican Lands Trust executive director, and contractor W.S. Bradford welcomed the public to a groundbreaking ceremony for an 1,800-foot universally accessible wheelchair boardwalk on June 29 at the SLT’s Osprey Marsh property on Point Road in Marion. SLT board members, contributors, and a few community members were in attendance. They hope to have the 1,800 ft. all accessible/wheelchair boardwalk completed in six months. This boardwalk will be the first of its kind in the Southcoast region.

Historic Fire612 viewsThe Dexters are trying to salvage the granite from the original foundation of the 1690 house. Bricks from a chimney are scattered at the old foundation. Susan Dexter used a metal detector to find artifacts from the site, and turned up an Indian-head penny and a couple heavily rusted items.

Many agreed that the current Master Plan is still relevant, with the majority concerned mostly with preserving the historic character of the town.
