Manguito515 viewsCenter School students were introduced to Latin rhythms and percussion instruments by the Boston-based educational Latin American music group Manguito during an afternoon presentation on January 24. Manguito members really captured the attention of the kids, resulting in plenty of learning while the group’s sizzling salsa and merengue music resulted in an eruption of dancing and spontaneous conga lines. Old Rochester Regional High Graduation 515 viewsThe Old Rochester Regional High Graduation ceremony on June 4 included speeches from Superintendent Doug White, Principal Michael Devoll, Class President Bailey Sweet, and Valedictorian Paige Watterson. RMS Concert515 viewsOn June 10, RMS hosted the 23rd annual concert, a partnership between elementary and middle schools in Martha’s Vineyard and Rochester Memorial. The concert band contained 150 musicians. Each fourth grade class represented a word comprising the C.A.R.E.S. acronym: Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control. Cardboard Boat Race 515 viewsORRJHS held the 6th annual Cardboard Boat Race on June 15 during S.C.O.P.E. week for 7th grade students. S.C.O.P.E. – Student Centered Opportunities for Personal Enrichment – is a week-long program that offers activities that challenge students while having fun! In addition to the cardboard boat race at the Mattapoisett YMCA, the week was filled with trips, tours, and activities, such as team building and the ropes course at the Dartmouth YMCA, a visit to Historic Faneuil Hall.
