Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association563 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Buzzards Bay Musicfest563 viewsThis week was the Buzzards Bay Musicfest in Marion, held at the Fireman Center for the Performing Arts at Tabor Academy. The free event brings together musicians from all across the globe for the five-day concert series. Dry Harvest563 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.
