Highway Crash178 viewsA utility truck carrying a crane broke down on December 1 on Route 195 in Mattapoisett and then fell sideways, temporarily closing the North Street exit ramp and all eastbound traffic between Mattapoisett and Marion. Tri-Town firefighters177 viewsThe holidays were challenging for Tri-Town firefighters. Marion and Rochester fire departments were among towns assisting Wareham after a mulch pile in a remote location off County Road caught fire on Christmas Eve. Firefighters worked in cold temperatures for eight hours, dispensing approximately 200,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. Seen supporting Wareham Fire Chief John Kelley and 29 Wareham Fire personnel at the scene were Marion Fire Tanker 1, Lieutenant Michael Still and Captain Joel Watte

Waterway Clean-up176 viewsKyle Kossak caused some concern when he was spotted in his kayak in Hiller Cove off Aucoot Road, but it turns out the mechanical engineer from Newport, Rhode Island, was not shell fishing, he was cleaning up trash along Mattapoisett’s shoreline. For several years now, Kossak has made a weekly hobby of picking out spots along the southern New England shoreline, taking his kayak out to selected sites and retrieving trash. MBTA Commuter Rail176 viewsThe initial group of brand-new MBTA Commuter Rail cars destined for Rochester were in West Wareham on June 16, nearing the end of a long journey that took the cars from South Korea where they were constructed to Baltimore, Maryland, where they were put on rails and eventually brought to Massachusetts and welcomed by a crew of MBTA personnel.
