Memorial Day Boat Race356 viewsDan Lawrence and William D. Watling III of Rochester (above left) broke the race record, winning the men’s division with a time of 1:46:59. Amy Hartley-Matteson of Mattapoisett and Katherine Hartley of Rochester (2:11:14) won the women’s division for the third consecutive time – the second time they’ve three-peated. Tri-Town Relay for Life356 viewsHundreds of residents attended the Tri-Town Relay for Life last weekend, raising nearly $40,000 for the American Cancer Society. SCC Car Wash356 viewsThe SouthCoast Children’s Chorus – along with parents and patrons – scrubbed for bucks during a car wash at the Mattapoisett Fire Station on Saturday afternoon, raising money for their general fund with a busy performance schedule coming up. “We hold fundraisers to support the work, the growth, and the performances of the Chorus,” Artistic Director Leslie Piper said. “We want every child to be able to sing, so we offer tuition scholarships for those who need them.” Photo by Shawn Badgley.

Olde Field Farm356 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Rochester Land hosted a joint walk at the Olde Field Farm property on the afternoon of Sunday, February 23. Hikers walked through the pinewood trails and through the frozen wetlands surrounding the Mattapoisett River, looking for animal tracks in the snow and admiring the natural beauty Rochester has to offer. Nature Explorers356 viewsMattRec and the Marion Natural History Museum partnered for the second year to provide "Nature Explorers" summer program. The students explored several different locations around Mattapoisett this year. We visited Land Trust property off Mattapoisett Neck Road and Bob Field gave us a tour of his Oyster farming operation. Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association356 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Miss South Coast, Jillian Zucco, coordinated the fundraising event as part of her progress towards the upcoming Miss Massachusetts pageant.
