42nd Annual Buzzards Bay Regatta404 views The 42nd Annual Buzzards Bay Regatta sailed on despite heavy rain and chilly temperatures the weekend of August 1 through the 3rd. The BBR, which takes place in Sippican Harbor, is the largest multi-class regatta in the country, with about 450 boats and over 1,100 sailors participating across 15 different classes. Miss South Coast404 viewsJillian Zucco of Mattapoisett (2nd from left), competing as Miss South Coast, was chosen as the first runner up in the 77th annual Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Pageant and received a $3,000 scholarship. Zucco was also the recipient of the Dr. Robert Harney Preliminary Swimsuit Award in the amount of a $250 scholarship and a $150 scholarship as the Miss Miracle Maker, which is awarded to the contestant who raises the most funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Dry Harvest404 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.
