Hurricane Heights318 viewsSigns on a telephone poll alongside Mattapoisett Neck Road at the south end of the causeway at Molly’s Cove indicate flood levels that have resulted from historic storms. Looking north, one can see the marsh area that has become, along with the road itself, a topic of concern resulting in a study meant to address long-term access to and from the neck. Wild Turkeys312 viewsWild turkeys as depicted by contributing writer and artist George B. Emmons, whose column in this issue discusses the revival of the bird symbolic to America’s Thanksgiving tradition. Despite being brought to America by colonists in 1620, hunting and deforestation had made them scarce in the northeast until U.S. Fish and Wildlife began transplanting them back from other areas in 1969. Now they are plentiful and roam freely in our neighborhoods. Illustration by George B. Emmons

Marion Wells306 viewsMarion’s well field at Mary’s Pond is a work in progress, as three state-of-the-art, 12-inch well pipes with submersible pumps are replacing 26 red-capped pipes that measure 2½ inches in diameter. The network of smaller pipes has been operated by one pump located inside the station building. When completed, Marion expects that upgrades at the East and West well fields and at Mary’s Pond will enable the town to double its water production. See story on Water/Sewer Commissioners.
