Retro Presto392 viewsThe August 4, 1955 cover of The Presto Press depicts the American pastime of square dancing, a weekend activity on the historic wharves located at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett so popular that hundreds watched from the sidelines. The Mattapoisett-Fairhaven Parents Music Club used the proceeds from the opening dance that year to purchase musical instruments for the Fairhaven High School band, and square dancing inspired one local girl to become a professional square-dance caller. Barbies391 viewsMany neighbors and friends have been asking about the Barbies. Due to virus concerns, we made a conscious decision not to create the display this year since it draws so many visitors of all ages to congregate near our gate. Instead, the Barbies are observing social-distancing guidelines with masks on, as this photo taken on July 4 illustrates. We hope that the full crew will be out next year.
