Butterfly Cover535 viewsThis local monarch butterfly seen feeding on this butterfly bush will soon take part in the great fall migration across the continent that could take it as far as southwestern Mexico, a seemingly impossible 3,000-mile journey for a creature of such delicateness. She won’t be returning to the Tri-Town, though, after wintering for months in the Mexican mountains with the millions of other monarchs. Instead, she will make her way back up north, but only as far as Texas, where she will find some local milkweed.

Babes in Toyland534 viewsMattapoisett held its annual holiday celebration and tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Shipyard Park. The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Children made their own ornaments and hung them on the Christmas tree. They also danced with Rudolph and Frosty and shared their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. Photo by Felix Perez.

Hurricane of 1938534 viewsMattapoisett resident Tim Smith purchased a collection of original Hurricane of 1938 photographs from an auction recently. The photographs show the devastation of the legendary hurricane in the area of Mattapoisetts Silver Shell Beach and Angelica Point. Mr. Smith does not believe that the pictures have ever been published, and gave The Wanderer the first chance at publishing the photos. He intends on donating the collection to the Mattapoisett Historical Museum. Photos courtesy of Tim Smith.
