Corpse flowers593 viewsCorpse flowers – These monotropa uniflora – “Indian pipes”, “ghost plant”, or “ghost pipes” as they are otherwise known – are perennial waxy-white, fleshy, iridescent flowers that rise from the forest floor like tiny ghosts in a graveyard, hidden beneath the shadows of ferns and fallen tree trunks. These herbaceous flowers exist without the sun’s energy, void of the chlorophyll that gives other plants their green color. September 13, 2018

Rochester Farm Stand593 viewsIn Rochester you either run a farm stand or you patronize a farm stand. Either way, you can’t make it to the end of a windy Rochester road without encountering a farm stand at this time of year, stocked with the autumn essentials grown in the Rochester ground and picked by Rochester hands. Baby Geese592 viewsThey’re here! Facebook is buzzing about the cuteness that is the baby Canada geese on Rounseville Road in Rochester that finally hatched last week. The six goslings and their parents can be seen foraging in the grass for food or swimming in the small pond near the Vaughan Hill Road intersection. But beware! Canada geese are very protective of their young – you’ve been warned! These babies will remain with their parents for one year. Photo by Jean Perry
