The harbor area has long been home to live music, and the Mattapoisett Town Band is comprised of more than 30 musicians from diverse backgrounds covering a wide spectrum of ages from students to senior citizens. Marion Harbormaster220 viewsMarion’s existing harbormaster’s headquarters building was lifted from its elevated underpinnings and relocated directly onto the wharf on July 26. The building was promptly powered up with air conditioning, as construction continues on the new Maritime Center in the northeast corner of the property. Polar Plunge220 viewsOn New Years Day, hundreds were arrayed at Mattapoisett Town Beach for this year’s Mattapoisett Polar Plunge. Since 2013, the beach has seen residents and visitors run into the freezing Atlantic to kick off the new year. The event is held by Keep On Plungin’ who, through the selling of baked goods, coffee, and hot chocolate, donate all proceeds of the fridged plunge to local families grappling with the costs of cancer treatment.
