Ned’s Point Lighthouse257 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. The lighthouse typically draws 100 visitors from all over the world when open during any regular, three-hour session. Photo by Mick Colageo

Tornado in Mattapoisett256 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Snow Cat256 viewsThere wasn’t a lot of accumulation with the snow that fell on the weekend over the coast as the storm started with rain, but there was enough snow on Brandt Beach in Mattapoisett for a family to have some fun creating this feline creature with seashell eyes. He even has a tail. Photo courtesy Noi Sabal. January 11, 2023 edition

Travis Roy Student Center255 viewsTabor Academy hosted an Open House on Tuesday morning at the new Travis Roy Student Center, which replaces the former library on the same spot. While the late Travis Roy is most widely known as a student-athlete whose college-hockey career lasted all of 11 seconds, his passion for student life, ceramics, sailing and the big part the Marion campus played in his life is reflected in the building of the new student center bearing his name.
