Caterpillar2.jpg
Monarch Caterpillar 518 viewsA monarch caterpillar devours a milkweed leaf in a small Mattapoisett meadow. Having probably been the last of the four generations of monarchs born since the start of the spring migration back to Mattapoisett (monarchs only enjoy a butterfly existence for two to six weeks), this caterpillar will undergo metamorphosis and likely be one of those that will soon head south to Mexico, flying two miles high in the sky. Turtles_9321.jpg
Turtle Care365 viewsSome of the residents of Jenney Lane at The Cove in Marion have found a new passion in rescuing diamond-backed terrapin eggs and safely releasing the hatchlings into the wild. A private neighborhood group, along with “Turtle Guy” Don Lewis and wife Sue Weiber Nourse, created a terrapin habitat restoration project knows as the turtle garden at The Cove. The project has seen success this year with an increase in new terrapin nests over last year. Photos by Jean PerrySep 07, 2016
