Crews worked double-time on August 26 and 27 to remove about 100 boats from Mattapoisett harbor in preparation for hurricane-turned-tropical-storm Irene. Although wind gusts teetered on hurricane strength, Irene was a tropical storm was she made landfall in the Tri-Town on August 28, 2011.
