Cassie Lawson of the Buzzards Bay Coalition led a group of 30 adults and children through the rigors of shellfishing on July 22 at the Mattapoisett town beach located adjacent to the YMCA camp. Lawson explained the physiology of the bivalves, how to use a shellfish rake, and the importance of obtaining a permit and being mindful of the difference between open and closed shellfish beds.
