Roger E. Kelley

Roger E. Kelley, 93, of Mattapoisett died December 5, 2014 at home.

He was the husband of Bertha S. (Salvucci) Kelley.

Born in St. Francis, ME, the son of the late Charles and Stella (Sirois) Kelley, he lived in Weston, MA before moving to Mattapoisett in 1964.

He attended the University of Maine and graduated from Boston University. He was formerly employed as an industrial engineer at several locations with General Motors. In 1962, he held engineering and managerial positions with the Acushnet Company, Atlas Tack and PCI Group. In 1976, he formed Management Engineering Consultants (MEC) which specialized in industrial growth problem solutions by means of computerization (CAD-CAM), serving several companies in fire engine assembly, matching, cold forming and the garment industries. Mr. Kelley taught various industrial technology courses and participated or led seminars at Northeastern University, Boston University, General Motors Institute and SMU, now University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He published several technological articles. He was a member of several professional organizations, served as vice president of the Boston chapter of the Institute for Industrial Engineering and founded the SouthMassachusetts Industrial Engineering Institute.

Mr. Kelley served as a rifleman with the U.S. Third Army during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was discharged after being wounded in action at Trier, Germany. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with one service star.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan Akin of Mattapoisett; 2 sons, Dr. Roger Kelley, Jr. and his wife Susan of New Orleans, LA and David Kelley of Arlington, VA; a brother, Paul Kelley of Fort Kent, ME; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly Watrous, Barbara Tillman, Bradford Kelley and Brian Kelley; 2 great-grandchildren, Julia Tillman and Foster Tillman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 13th at 9 AM in St. Anthony’s Church. Burial will follow in Cushing Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6 Mattapoisett.
