Nature Explorers231 viewsMattRec and the Marion Natural History Museum partnered for the second year to provide "Nature Explorers" summer program. The students explored several different locations around Mattapoisett this year. We visited Land Trust property off Mattapoisett Neck Road and Bob Field gave us a tour of his Oyster farming operation. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. The museum borrowed the seal from the Buzzards Bay Coalition for the day, and we had fun exploring what makes a harbor seal such a successful resident of Marion waters, and learning about the hazards they may encounter, as well as why it is important to keep your distance when you see a seal on land. Miss Inspirational231 viewsThe Miss Inspirational program took to the ORR stage and stole the show on Friday, May 6, during a packed auditorium assembled to see 29 young women of all abilities showcase their talents and accomplishments. Miss South Coast, Jillian Zucco, coordinated the fundraising event as part of her progress towards the upcoming Miss Massachusetts pageant. Octopurrfest231 viewsThe Rochester cat shelter “It’s All About the Animals” held its 2nd Annual Octopurrfest on Sunday, October 2. Raising over $7,000, owner/operator Pam Robinson said this year’s event was “absolutely over the top!” The shelter is in the process of building an addition to create a cat room and a porch. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their wonderful donation and participation,” said Robinson.
