Residents watched the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s Ken Ballinger demonstrate K-9 tactics, got a feel for SWAT, EMS, and Fire vehicles; and enjoyed pizza and ice cream. 2014 Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride322 viewsOver 150 cyclists celebrated the beauty of the Buzzards Bay area on October 5 during the 2014 Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride that passed through Rochester at Eastover Farm. A 75-mile ride to raise fund and awareness of the BBC started at Horseneck Beach in Westport all went all the way to Falmouth, and the half-route 35-mile ride started in Rochester. Breakfast with Santa322 viewsMarion’s Police Brotherhood held its 3rd annual toy drive and pancake breakfast with Santa at Sippican School on December 6. Families were asked to bring new unwrapped toys, and in return they were given a delicious pancake breakfast and a photo with Santa. 2015 Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge322 viewsThe 2015 Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge on New Year’s Day at Town Beach in Mattapoisett was a splashing success, according to event coordinator Michelle Huggins. The third annual polar plunge raised nearly $10,000 to provide financial assistance to local families battling cancer. Many participants donned costumes, competing for the best costume trophy. Mattapoisett Lion’s Club Peace Poster Contest322 viewsIn November the Mattapoisett Lion’s Club held a Peace Poster contest at Old Hammondtown School for the 6th graders. There were 80 participants this year! This years’ theme was “Love, Peace and Understanding”. The winners were: First Place: Spencer Perez-Dormintzer; 2nd Place Kayli Viera; 3rd Place: Maggie Berry & Andrews.
