Flag Day359 viewsCenter School students gathered together with Old Hammondtown students by the Center School flagpole on the morning of Tuesday, June 14, to celebrate Flag Day. The OHS band played a number of tunes, while the Center School students sang patriotic songs and listened to Principal Rose Bowman read a series of poems and writings to remind the children of what the American flag stands for. Rochester Country Fair 359 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair rolled into town on Thursday, August 18, filled the air with the sweet smells of Italian sausage and fried fair food, mixed with the smoke of diesel engines, and created that magical scent we all relish until the fair wrapped up on Sunday, August 21. Tractor pulls, animal shows, kids’ games, music, and wrestling (including the match between The Aardvark and Buck Chuck) delighted us while it lasted in the bucolic setting of Rochester, Massachusetts. Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition359 viewsThe 2nd Annual Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition was well attended this Sunday, September 18, behind the Knights of Columbus on Route 6. Two categories – professional establishment and public safety – competed for best judged chowder and people’s choice. Raising over $7,000, owner/operator Pam Robinson said this year’s event was “absolutely over the top!” The shelter is in the process of building an addition to create a cat room and a porch. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their wonderful donation and participation,” said Robinson.
