Marion Natural History Museum325 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had the chance to inspect some of the equipment used to count our local herring population. We heard about the species, its food chain, life cycle, and the predators of alewives in our area. Many thanks go to David Watling, Rochester herring inspector, for this fun, hands-on program. This year the weather was fine – maybe a tad hot for the racers, says Boat Race Chairman Art Benner, but great weather to kick off the summer season. Photos by Jean Perry

Great Community Picnic325 viewsThe Great Community Picnic hosted by the Mattapoisett Land Trust and Historical Museum featured great food, music, and lots of creative expression. One table was tricked out in a Jaws theme while another was filled with ladies wearing hats called “fascinators”. The fourth annual fundraiser was a sold out event. The grounds of the MLT’s Munro Preserve provided the perfect location as nearly 200 people mingled harbor side. Photo by Marilou Newell
