Octopurrfest250 viewsThe Rochester cat shelter “It’s All About the Animals” held its 2nd Annual Octopurrfest on Sunday, October 2. Raising over $7,000, owner/operator Pam Robinson said this year’s event was “absolutely over the top!” The shelter is in the process of building an addition to create a cat room and a porch. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their wonderful donation and participation,” said Robinson. Veterans Day Ceremony in Mattapoiset250 viewsOn November 11 following the Veterans Day Ceremony at Old Hammondtown School in Mattapoisett, members of Boy Scout Troop 53 performed a flag decommissioning ceremony at the Mattapoisett Land Trust’s Dunseith Gardens. Flags had been placed in decommissioning boxes built by Drew Robert for his Eagle project. The flags were then collected from the boxes located at the police department, town hall and public library and prepared for burning and burial.

Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration. Make A Difference Expo 250 viewsOn December 29 Miss Massachusetts Jillian Zucco held a Make A Difference Expo at the Knights of Columbus hall. Various volunteer organizations and groups dependent on volunteer participation set up tables and invited the public to learn how they could help. Pinewood Derby250 viewsCub Scouts Pack 30 held its annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday, January 13 at Rochester Memorial School. The pinewood derby is a tradition that was started back in 1963 in Manhattan Beach, California and persists to this day.
