Rochester Scout395 viewsRochester Boy Scouts from Troop 31, Andrew Wronski and Austin O'Malley, took part in Wreaths Across America on December 14 at the National Cemetery in Bourne. Each year, thousands of wreaths are placed across military and veterans cemeteries to honor our America's fallen for the holidays. Rochester Troop 31 Scouts helped with this national effort to place 18,000 wreaths this year. The adorning of these graves pays tribute to the sacrifice the men and women of the armed forces pay to preserve our freedoms.

Tripp Mill395 viewsThere’s a new historical plaque situated at the site of the former Tripp Mill. Located on the west branch of the Mattapoisett River off Acushnet Road, Tripp Mill was owned and operated for decades by members of the Tinkham family. A stone spillway remains at the site. The over 20-acre Tinkham Pond fed by the Mattapoisett River along with other contiguous parcels are now part of conservation lands held in part by the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the U.S Fish and Wildlife Department.

Octoberfest394 viewsThe Sippican Tennis Club was the site of the third annual Buzzard’s Bay Habitat for Humanity Octoberfest on September 19 in Marion Village. Music was provided by Felonious Funk, and party-goers enjoyed a wide array of finger foods and fine spirits. Friendly conversation lingered over the silent auction tables, which offered original oil paintings, handmade felted purses, memberships to the Wareham YMCA and the Marion Art Center, and plenty of gift certificate to area businesses. Poker Run394 viewsMotorcyclists gathered Sunday morning, September 20, in the parking lot of ORR to ride in the third annual Poker Run for Alex Pateakos. Alex is a five-year-old Marion boy who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Money raised by the poker run will benefit Alex, and Families of SMA, a group that helps families like the Pateakos’ live their lives as close to normal as possible. Electronics Recycling394 viewsDespite the rain, Boy Scout Troop #31 in Rochester held an Electronics Recycling Day at Plumb Corner on October 24. Artist Visit394 viewsOn November 19, Author/Illustrator Teresa Flavin visited each of Mattapoisett Center School’s third grade classes. Ms. Flavin is the illustrator of Joseph Bruchac’s play Pushing Up the Sky featured in the 3rd Graders reading book. Her presentation included showing the students original sketches and artwork from her books, discussing the processes involved in creating artwork for publication and a short hands-on drawing project.

The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Children made their own ornaments and hung them on the Christmas tree. They also danced with Rudolph and Frosty and shared their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. Photo by Felix Perez.
